If you fancy escaping the British winter for a run in sunnier climes, next year's Land Rover Malta marathon on 24 February presents a great opportunity. The event includes a full marathon, half marathon and a walkathon option.
Situated just 58 miles south of Sicily, Malta's mild February weather is conducive to a fast race time as are the downhill routes (200m drop in the marathon). The marathon starts outside Malta's old capital Mdina, and takes in the famous town of Mosta as well as passing through current capital, Valetta, before finishing on the scenic front of Sliema. The half marathon follows a similar route but doesn't include the loop around Mosta.
Marathon race entry includes a Land Rover Malta marathon t-Shirt and an official race magazine (including route map), which will be given out at registration. A commemorative Land Rover Malta marathon medal will be presented to all competitors who finish the full marathon or the half marathon events.
The entry fee is £30 and running travel specialist Sports Tours International is offering hotel packages in a 4 star hotel starting from £99 for two nights, with the option of staying longer. For more information visit the Malta marathon website or go to the Sports Tours International website.
