Marathon Of Champs

Paris marathon start

There were a record 40,000 participants at this year's Paris marathon, however, race organisers are hoping to exceed that figure at the 2014 event on 6 April. As you would expect, the French capital's race route is awash with historic landmarks making it one of the most popular marathons in Europe.

Starting at the Champs Elysées, runners take in the Louvre, Place de la Bastille, the Eiffel Tower and Pont Neuf before finishing in the spectacular Avenue Foch. Sports Tours International is offering British runners entry to the race for only £50 as well as various travel packages. Runners can stay at the Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel or the Novotel Paris Tour Eiffel (no prizes for guessing which Parisian landmark they're both close to).

As well as being one of the most popular races in Europe, Paris marathon is also one of the most environmentally friendly. There is a 'green squad' ensuring runners don't litter the ground and there are plans to continue the initiative introduced at this year's race which saw runners' kinetic energy converted into electricity to power signs and display screens throughout the race.
