Participants faced testing conditions at Marathon de Ben Nevis on Saturday (24 September) with reports that sections of the route were effectively like running in a river. 42 runners took part in the 57km event, circumnavigating Ben Nevis, Nevis Range Mamores, and the Grey Corries.
Organisers decided to change the course to an out-and-back route, which Keir Allen completed in 5:22:48 to claim victory. The first female to cross the finish line was Fay Bromilow in 6:53:53.
Runners were rewarded for their efforts at race HQ the Ben Nevis Distillery. All important soup and rolls were handed out to participants to help them refuel following their herculean efforts.
The race was held alongside mountain biking event Tour de Ben Nevis. Entries for the 2017 Marathon de Ben Nevis will go live on 1 November. For more information go to the No Fuss Events website.
POSTSCRIPT: Thanks Keir and David for putting us right about revised distance (now altered in story) and sorry for underestimating the run distance. Well done, all finishers at the event.
