Scotland’s Andrew Lemoncello hit the jackpot in Las Vegas on Sunday (15 November) as he recorded his first marathon win at the Rock n Roll Las Vegas Marathon. Sin City felt more like the Windy City with participants having to contend with 43mph winds throughout the race.
Lemon Squashes Rivals In Las Vegas
Arizona-based Lemoncello crossed the finish line in 2:21:47, more than 10 minutes faster than his nearest rival Tommy Rivers Puzey.
Lemoncello tweeted afterwards: “The @RunRocknRoll #stripatnight had savage weather but boy did the crowds make up 4 it. What a way to finish a race!”
Adding: “Had to abandon race plan at 8 miles because of the wind but so glad I finished the race. Every race and run is going to feel easy after that.”
The fastest female was Panama’s Williana Rojas with a time of 3:08:18. The iconic Las Vegas Strip was shut down for the night to allow participants to traverse the neon-lit course. As with all Rock n Roll events, runners were kept motivated by bands playing throughout the route.
