British 1500m record holder, Olympic finalist and European XC gold medallist Laura Muir will compete in the Great Edinburgh XCountry on Saturday 7 January. Laura will be taking part in the innovative international mixed Team Relay, which includes individual home nations teams alongside internationals from Europe and the USA.
The 23-year-old will be hoping to hold onto the title she helped the Scotland A team claim in the 2016 event. The event also includes challenging senior and junior races where spectators can see the best of Team GB & NI compete against Europe and the USA.
She sees the competition as an ideal warm-up for her 2017 season: “Cross country is always a vital part of my training programme. I’ve always loved it and enjoy being out there. I will look forward to running in front of a home crowd, representing Scotland. A good cross country performance will be perfect preparation for what is another important year.”
Recreational runners can also join in the fun with the mass participation Great Winter Run earlier in the day. This challenging 5k starts in Holyrood Park and travels up Queen’s Drive and around Arthur’s Seat before passing Dunsapie Loch and returning back towards Holyrood Park.
