While many of the British athletes will be aiming to make history at London 2012, the Stockholm Jubilee Marathon will provide the opportunity for us mere mortals to partake in a celebration of Olympic glory. The final call for guaranteed entries for the centenary race - which is organised for July 14 - closes midday tomorrow (Wednesday, May 16).
As part of the celebrations, the race will follow an almost identical route to the marathon at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. The route will be as true to the inaugural one as possible, meaning the distance will only be 40.2km as opposed to the now standard 42.2km. There will, however, be an extra loop available for runners who want to make up the distance.
Competitors snapping up the last of the guaranteed places will be provided with a free Ronhill running kit - vests, shorts, and socks - in Great Britain colours. In addition, legendary Olympic marathon runner Ron Hill will be on hand to lend words of advice in the lead up to the race.
