There is still time to join thousands of runners in sweeping away those January blues in Holyrood Park on Saturday (13 January) at the Great Edinburgh Winter Run. The 5K race allows runners to take in some of the fantastic sights that Edinburgh has to offer, while starting your running year off in style.
Also taking place on the same day will be the Simplyhealth Junior Great Edinburgh Winter Run and Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh XCountry, making it a great day out for the whole family.
Participants will travel up the iconic Arthur’s Seat, passing Dunsapie Loch before heading on a fast downhill section and crossing the finish line next to the Palace of Holyrood House.
Afterwards you’ll be able to enjoy the vibrant event village, packed with food stalls, before watching some of the world’s best athletes take on the Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh XCountry.
Great Britain Senior Men will be hoping for a better team performance this year after finishing some way behind the USA in 2017. GB will be led by Stockport’s Ben Connor who finished sixth in last month’s European Cross Country Championships in Samorin, Slovakia. Connor is joined in the team by Patrick Dever, Nick Goolab, Andy Heyes, Jack Martin, Chris Olley, Alex Teuten, Mahamed Mahamed and Andy Vernon.
For those unable to make the big day, you can follow the Cross Country action live on BBC1+HD on Saturday 13 January from 13:15-15:15.
