jogscotland Clans Set For Summer Gathering

jogscotland and GSi Events, organisers of Edinburgh Marathon Festival, will join forces this summer to stage a new event - One Big Weekend. This innovative project will see thousands of jogscotland members congregate at four locations - Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth - over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 3/4 August 2013.

The full event programme for One Big Weekend will be announced soon however a chip-timed 5k will be a feature while junior races and promotion of healthy eating and complementary fitness activities are under consideration. jogscotland's much-loved mascot Jog Scotty is certain to be in attendance but expect 'fur to fly' if he crosses the path of his deadly rival GSi Events' Hairy Haggis.

Although One Big Weekend will have a strong jogscotland flavour, anyone can take part in the event, not justjogscotland members. However by becoming a member during the entry process, customers will enjoy a discounted entry as well as gaining all the benefits of jogscotland's bronze membership.

Neil Kilgour, One Big Weekend Race Director, told scottishrunningguide.com: "The centrepiece 5ks will give jogscotland members and other runners the chance to work towards a goal and set a personal best.

"We can't wait to welcome everyone to One Big Weekend. We'll have two days of really enjoyable, friendly events where people from all over the country can come together and celebrate their love of walking, jogging and running."

The new boss at jogscotland Billy Mitchell is also eagerly anticipating the high summer dates. He said: "We're looking forward to seeing lots of jogscotland members, their family and friends - and to welcoming plenty of people who are coming along to find out about jogscotland for the first time. Just like our jog groups, the events will be friendly and supportive, and perfect for people of all abilities."

One Big Weekend is an inclusive event, where anyone can celebrate their accomplishment, regardless of what that may be - achieving a PB, raising money for a favourite charity, or just crossing the line with friends. Prizes will be awarded to celebrate first over the line and other great individual achievements among participants. Every runner will also receive a quality medal and goody bag.

Entries are now open for One Big Weekend at the event website.
