The fifth and final race of Stornaway Running and Athletic Club’s Heb 3 Challenge takes place tomorrow (Saturday 4 July) as the Isle of Harris hosts its annual half marathon. The challenge is to complete at least three of the five Western Isles and Skye half marathons (Stornoway, Harris, Benbecula, Barra or Skye) in any one year.
Isle Be Back
Heb 3 is is said to be the longest running series of half marathons in Scotland with this year marking its 26th hosting. The event’s enduring popularity is attributed to the scenic quality of its route, giving participants spectacular views of some of the world's most beautiful sandy beaches. The race starts at Borve Lodge, running along the coastline. Competitors should keep an eye out for Taransay, the island featured on television show Castaway, before the road turns east and passes the vast expanse of Luskentyre Beach – recently voted one of the top seven beaches in the world. The course culminates with participants descending towards the finish in the bustling ferry port of Tarbert.
A bumper turnout is expected at the event, which in the past has included participants from as far afield as Canada and Germany. For more information, visit the Stornoway Running and Athletic Club website.
