There were perfect running conditions on Saturday (3 September) as the fourth Highland Perthshire Marathon & Half Marathon returned to Aberfeldy. Close to 300 runners were greeted by cool temperatures and overcast skies on the day.
Ian J Berry-Bowers of Winchester & District AC won the men’s marathon in 2:55:03, with John Whitecross in second (3:07:11) and Alex Osborne in third (3:08:55).
Avril O’Donnell of Carnegie Harriers claimed victory in the women's race (3:32:25), closely followed by Lindsay Hampton (3:23:37), with Pamela Whitlie of Carnethy HRC in third place (3:46:11).
The half marathon saw Chris Voth take top spot for the men in 1:12:48, and Hilary Robinson finish fastest female (1:30:43).
Alex Osborne praised the event after his third-place finish: “It was a really nice, scenic route. There was one hill at eight miles which was a killer second time round at 21 miles. The marshals were numerous and really supportive – especially those down at Taymouth Castle.”
Alex admitted his preparation hadn’t been ideal: “It maybe wasn’t the best idea to do a marathon in the middle of a stag do.”
