The biggest women-only running event in the UK returns to Glasgow on Sunday (11 May) with over 10,000 runners set to take part in the Bupa Great Women's 10K in Bellahouston Park. Those who don't have a place can still enter in person until 5pm tomorrow at St Enoch Shopping Centre.
Amongst the participants will be Olympic curler, Eve Muirhead (pictured), taking a break from ice to try running. The 24-year-old became the youngest ever skip to win an Olympic medal when she took bronze for Britain at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Eve said: "I can't wait to join all the fantastic women at the start line and experience the amazing atmosphere and crowd support along the route I've heard so much about."
Joining Eve on Sunday will be Stacey Velaney, running the event as part of a quest to run more than 150k in less than three months. Originally from Scotland, Stacey moved to Sydney seven years ago. After completing the race, Stacey will head to Paris, Venice, Madrid and Thailand for further stages of her challenge.
Stacey said of her return to Scotland: “I’m really looking forward to getting back on home turf. I have a lot of family and friends in Glasgow who will be supporting me during the run. I’ve done a few 10ks before but this is my first in Scotland. It will be nice to have some company during the race as opposed to just running by myself."
