Runners in Ayrshire are being invited to take part in a '5k of mayhem' that requires them to run, crawl, climb and slide their way around a muddy assault course. The event is the Hansel Mud Run on 3 May, held at Scottish Assault Courses at Craufurdland Estate, Kilmarnock.
As one of Scotland's largest and newest assault courses, the route has been designed and tested by the military elite, but organisers stress that the emphasis is on fun and there are some 'softer options' available. Participants can opt out of obstacles or reduce the length of their challenge depending on their fitness levels.
You can take part as an individual or as part of a team. Participants are advised to wear old clothes and bring a change of clothing and a towel.
For supporters not taking part, there are activities for all the family including a treasure woodland walk at £1 per child. Spectators are warned that weather conditions may make this unsuitable for prams and pushchairs.
The run is to raise funds for learning disability charity, Hansel. Registration costs £15. For more information, visit the event website.
