Greater Manchester Prize Fund Revealed

Greater Manchester Marathon

Organisers of the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon in Trafford have released details of their British-only prize fund for the 2014 race. Taking place on Sunday 6 April, the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon in Trafford is recognised as flattest and fastest marathon in the UK with just 54m of elevation over the course.

The cash prize for the first ranked British male and female athletes has been set at £750, followed by £500 for the runner ups and £250 for the third placed athletes. The top ten British athletes will be eligible for cash prizes.

In addition, organisers have also set three time bonuses, awarding £10,000 to the first male British athlete who finishes under 2:10 and the first female British athlete who finishes under 2:20. The first placed British athlete completing the race in under 2:15 (male) or 2:25 (female) can claim a £3,000 time bonus.

Using the same route as 2013, the marathon starts on the A56 White City Roundabout in Old Trafford, just a short walk from Manchester United Football Club, and finishes outside the stadium where the race village and charity zone are also located. A new addition for 2014 is the half / half relay, which will allow runners to share the marathon distance with a partner. There is also a four-leg relay, where teams of four can each take a leg over 26.2 miles.

A total of 10,000 places have been made available for next year's race. To register, visit the event website.
