After winning gold at the London Olympics, rowing champion Katherine Grainger will be hoping her efforts can inspire locals in West Dunbartonshire to become more active as she takes part in an event next week celebrating local club sport and its contribution to the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. The first of two events that make up the West Dunbartonshire Sports Shows, it will see her joined by British Wheelchair Tennis No 1 and Paralympian, Gordon Reid, at Meadow Centre, Dumbarton on Saturday 15 September.
The second event takes place on 29 September at the Playdrome, Clydebank and will feature Commonwealth gold medallist and Olympic swimmer Robbie Renwick. The shows are sponsored by EventScotland and West Dunbartonshire Council and will involve activities, demonstrations, taster sessions and the chance to meet local clubs in what is hoped to inspire people to become more involved in sport.
Maurice Donohue from West Dunbartonshire Leisure Sports Development said: "This is a great opportunity for you to come along and get a chance to see various clubs and events that take place in the region and the chance to meet some of our Olympic heroes."
The shows are free and will run from 11am - 3pm on both days. For more information visit the West Dunbartonshire Council website.
