Following the success of the inaugural Glentress Trail Races in February, High Terrain Events will hold two trail events at Glentress Forest near Peebles this weekend (19–20 November). Saturday sees runners take on the 10K Night Trail Run, followed by a 21K Trail Race (in the daylight) on Sunday.
Billed as the 'Gateway to the Tweed Valley Forest Park’, Glentress Forest features a breathtaking array of forest trails. Runners will face mile-upon-mile of waymarked trails, including forest walks, woodland singletrack and heather clad moorland.
The 10K course consists mainly of firm gravel trails and woodland single track. runners will run through sections of waymarked walking trails, including the Glen Trail alongside Glentress Burn, linking in with Buzzard’s Nest Trail. The course then goes onto the Time Trail, passing fortified iron age settlements, with spectacular views over the Tweed Valley and the Caddon Hills. A short section on the Tower Trail links the route back onto the Buzzard’s Nest Trail to finish with an exhilarating descent to the finish.
The 21K course is slightly tougher, following the same route as the 10K for the first 5k. Then it deviates onto the black graded walking trailing, climbing to the top of Glentress Forest where runners can take in some fantastic views. The descent follows sections of the black graded trail before rejoining Buzzard’s Nest Trail to finish back at the Peel Centre trailhead.
