The starter's gun has gone off for Run Garioch 2013 with an impressive launch at the Garioch Sports Centre, Inverurie. The popular Inverurie running event will be held on Sunday 24 March 2013 and includes a 5K, 10K, half marathon and junior race.
Local GB modern pentathlete Freyja Prentice joined race sponsors, Specsavers Inverurie, CP&CO, and Accord Energy Solutions at the launch, along with chief executive of Scottish Athletics, Nigel Holl.
Race director, Eric Simpson, said: "Run Garioch is the main fundraiser for the Garioch Sports Trust as well as an event that the whole family can enjoy, but it couldn't take place without our sponsors."
Alan Spence, director of Accord Energy which is sponsoring the half marathon for the first time, said: "Sponsoring the Run Garioch Accord Energy half marathon is a great way for us to support a very worthy local venture that will benefit not just people in Inverurie, but also everyone in the wider Aberdeenshire community who uses the first-class facilities provided by the Garioch Sports Trust."
The centre's '10 Weeks to Run Garioch' Training Programme will also return in the new year. The first day of training is Monday 14 January, and places will be limited. For more details, contact the Garioch Sports Centre, Burghmuir Drive, Inverurie, on 01467 626141 or attend the registration evening on Wednesday 9 January. Entries for the 5k, 10k, half marathon and Junior Races (P1-P7) are now open on the Run Garioch website and expected to sell quickly.
