Runners heading over the New York for the marathon this weekend can be supported all the way from home in the Uk with the ING New York City Marathon Running Tracking Services. Organisers are offering three different tracking methods so your supporters at home can be with you every step of the way.
The easiest way for people in this country to track their friends in Sunday's race will be through their web browser, fans will be able to track up to three runners from 7am EDT on Sunday, November 7. Marathon organisers also have a Athelete Alert Service, allowing fans to track their marathon running friends via text message. This is a chargeable service, and for $5.99, fans in Britain can receive an alert each time their friend passes a 5km split marker, as well as when they cross the finish line.
Organisers have also developed a tracker application which can be downloaded on to iPhones iPads and iPods from the iTunes store, featuring everything from race day photos and video feeds, a leaderboard and of course, runner tracking.
These innovative new services may serve as a benchmark for future large races, allowing fans of runners all over the world the chance to run each step of the race with their friends. Good luck to everyone heading over to New York this year, remember anyone who wants to participate in next year's race can register now for race entry and travel with Sports Tours International.
