There are still five opportunities left for club runners to be in contention for one of the UK's most enticing prizes. The Great Club Challenge, part of the Great Run series, gives clubs from across the UK the chance to win a trip to Ethiopia’s capital city, Addis Ababa, to compete alongside 40,000 others at the 2015 Great Ethiopian Run.
To qualify clubs and their runners must be affiliated with either England Athletics or Scottish Athletics and field at least seven male and seven female registered athletes. The upcoming events are the Morrisons Great North Run (13 September), Great Yorkshire Run (27 September), Great Scottish Run (4 October) Great Birmingham Run (18 October) and Great South Run (25 October).
The trip includes a stay at the famous Yaya Village, located outside the city of Addis Ababa, at an altitude of 2,700 meters above sea level. The winning team will also enjoy a personal meeting with the world’s greatest ever distance runner, Haile Gebrselassie, before taking part in Africa’s largest road race.
The Great Club Challenge will also award winning clubs at each event £500 and 15 free entries to their respective 2016 Great Run, as well as ten and five entries to the second and third placed clubs.
As it stands, the clubs in contention are Stockport Harriers from the Morrisons Great Manchester Run, Gateshead Harriers from the Morrisons Great North 10K, JogScotland from the Morrisons Great Edinburgh Run, and Bourneville Harriers from the Morrisons Great Birmingham 10K.
