Registration is now open for this year's Fantasy Island 50 event on 20 September. The run is held on the Isle of Cumbrae and gives entrants the option of running between one to five laps around the island with one lap being just over 10 miles.
The run is the main annual fundraising event for charity Michael's Movers for Parkinson's - raising funds and providing support for both Parkinson's sufferers and their carers in Scotland. Starting from the town of Millport, the course is flat and scenic with joggers, runners and elite athletes all welcome. The race came about when Michael's Movers co-founder Maria Righetti ran 50 miles round Cumbrae to celebrate her 50th birthday.
Maria explained: "Every year I like to do something different. So when I turned 50 I ran 50 miles and the following year my husband and I were married 30 years so I ran 30 miles on our anniversary. Runners are not obliged to raise a certain amount of sponsorship money to enter however we would greatly appreciate it if runners could try and raise some sponsorship money for this very worthwhile charity."
