Following on from the spectacular success of the 2017 Edinburgh Marathon Festival, runners can now take their place in the 2018 event. Early birds are now able to register for next year’s event at this year’s price.
Taking place on 26 May and 27 May 2018, the festival, which is expected to attract more than 30,000 runners, will kick off an extraordinary year of sport including the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast in April, the British Open in Carnoustie in July and the European Championships in Glasgow in August.
Second only to London in terms of size in the UK, the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, which turns 16 next year, takes place in Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh and continues through East Lothian. There are nine races on offer, guaranteeing there is something for everyone from seasoned runners to charity fundraisers and beginners.
Neil Kilgour, Edinburgh Marathon Festival director, said: “Scotland is preparing to welcome the world in 2018 and we look forward to delivering an outstanding Edinburgh Marathon Festival that the nation will be proud of."
Ex-Olympic runner Donald MacGregor helped launch the 2018 Edinburgh Marathon Festival, having been a starter at this year’s event.
“I was completely and utterly blown away by the sheer size and impact of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival in my role as the official starter this year. It’s a fantastic event which raises an incredible amount of money for so many worthy causes,” he said.
