Elgin parkrun got off to a flying start on Saturday (5 March) with 216 runners taking part in the inaugural event at Cooper Park. The turnout is the fifth highest for an inaugural event in Scotland. More than half of the participants were making their parkrun debuts and there were runners from 20 running clubs.

Organisers said: “Well yesterday finally saw the arrival of the Elgin parkrun. And I think that the arrival was a very successful one. There were a lot of smiley faces in the photos of the event. An extra big thank you to all the marshals and helpers.”
parkrunners took to social media afterwards to praise the event with Karen Sinclair commenting: “Really enjoyed my first parkrun with my 11-year-old son and the volunteers always spurred us on which was very much appreciated. Thanks to everyone involved it was a great turn out and well organised, looking forward to the next one!”
Emma Matthias posted: “Massive thank you to all the volunteers and other runners for what was an awesome run today! It was my first ever parkrun and I'm looking forward to next week already!”
