After the success of Virgin London marathon, all eyes are shifting to Edinburgh, host of the UK's second biggest marathon on 26 May. Part of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival starting on 25 May, marathon places sold out months ago however organisers are now releasing another 31 spots at 7pm tonight (23 April).
The places are on a strictly first come first served basis and close at 5pm on 30 April or sooner if they sell out quicker. The cost for each place is £49.50, the standard entry fee, plus a £49.50 donation to Macmillan Cancer Support. There is no obligation to raise more funds for Macmillan or any other charity but organisers encourage you to do so.
Edinburgh Marathon Festival race director, Neil Kilgour, said: "Running a marathon is a serious athletic undertaking and sometimes it does not go to plan. Consequently we are really glad that we can help in a little way for some of the runners who had hoped to deliver in London or another spring marathon. We would like to help more but we are only able to find 31 places. Nothing beats the feeling of achieving a goal and you can achieve in Edinburgh. Grab the moment and make it happen."
