There’s just over a week until 30,000 competitors from over 100 countries head to Scotland’s capital for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on 24 and 25 May! The festival features seven races – two junior races, a 5k and a 10k on the Saturday, with the half and full marathons held on the Sunday.
With events such as Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon offering participants the chance to get married during the race, two runners from Gloucester will take things a step further at Edinburgh Marathon. Amber and Craig Bullingham are both running as part of their honeymoon. The race is their first marathon and they plan to cross the finish line at the same time!
Amber explained the couple’s decision: “We picked Edinburgh because of its reputation, and recommendations from friends and family that the city is a beautiful place to visit. This did, however, mean we had to juggle marathon training with wedding planning - often running was a welcome relief from wedding stress!”
Edinburgh Marathon will see participants run from the city centre through East Lothian. The race begins both at London and Regent Road; passing Arthurs Seat and and Holyrood Palace, the Queen’s official residence in Scotland. The course then heads east along the Portobello Promenade fronting on to white sand beaches with views of the Firth of Forth; passing the picturesque Musselburgh Racecourse and the pretty coastal village of Longniddry as well as the elegant neo-classical mansion of Gosford House before reaching Prestonpans and Musselburgh Links. The marathon ends in playing fields by Pinkie St Peter’s Primary school, Musselburgh.
