Organisers of the Edinburgh Marathon have extended the entry deadline for both the Marathon and Scottish Half until Thursday April 22 at 5pm in light of the recent disruptions to UK and European air travel due to the eruption of the Icelandic volcano last week.
Event organisers have been inundated with calls from disappointed runners that were due to run in several marathons around the world, including Paris, Antwerp, Hamburg, Boston, London, Brighton, Vienna, Nice and Belgrade and have therefore decided to extend the deadline until this Thursday to accommodate these disappointed runners.
Damien O'Looney, Marketing Director for the marathon said;
"After trainng for six months or more it is absoutly gutting not to be able to run. Hundreds of runners have put in months and months of training for their chosen marathon only to be stopped at the final hurdle by events outside of their control. We hope by extending the entry deadline that we can bring a smile to some of these runners' faces."
