An Edinburgh runner hopes to have set a new Guinness World Record for running a marathon wearing full Highland dress. Gavin Orr completed the Callanish Stones Marathon on the Isle of Lewis in 3:46:14 on Saturday (2 August).
Orr was told that to get into the record books he'd have to complete the race in under 5 hours. As well as a kilt, he also wore a jacket, waistcoat, full-length socks, and a sporran. The only concessions Guinness made were that he was allowed to wear underwear and trainers instead of brogues.
The 45-year-old also raised £2,200 for Aberlour Child Care Trust. He explained: "I've been running marathons for quite a long time and for this one I decided that i wanted to do something to raise money for charity. Dressing up always seems to help with raising a bit more cash. The full Highland dress is pretty heavy, pretty uncomfortable for running. It's not the fastest marathon I've ever run but hopefully it's the fastest one run in a kilt"
