If you’re looking for the perfect blend of whisky (and running), the inaugural Dramathon is for you. The event, inspired by France’s Marathon du Medoc, is a marathon distance race along the Speyside Way from Glenfarclas distillery to Glenfiddich distillery and will be held on 21 October.
Fancy A Shot At The Dramathon?
The concept was dreamed up by running and single malt enthusiasts Jon Dunderdale and Ian King, while having a dram or two. The pair have partnered with Durty Events to organise the race which is sponsored by Glenfiddich and Glenfarclas.
They say: “The Dramathon is beautifully structured and well-paced with a great finish. Just like a Speyside malt in fact. We aim to create an event which is well-put together and professionally organised, but that retains a sense of humour, a chilled-out atmosphere, is inclusive, and great value for money. This is all supposed to be fun - right?”
Adding: "Special thanks goes to Ballindalloch Estate Distillery who are kindly allowing us to run across their grounds."
The race takes in several distilleries, with the option of getting stamped at each one then picking up corresponding miniatures at the end of the race. Participants have the choice of a full marathon (Glenfarclas to Glenfiddich), a half marathon (Tamdhu to Glenfiddich), a 10K (Aberlour to Glenfiddich) or a relay option (teams of four tackling different legs of the marathon). The route is 90% off-road and offers a lot of contrasts, from the wilderness at Ben Rinnes to the formal Gardens of Ballindalloch Castle.
There are also plans for a post-race party courtesy of Glenfiddich. For more information visit the Dramathon website.
