Mark Allison, aka Run Geordie Run, has arrived back in the UK after completing his 2,383-mile Benfield Run across Australia! The gruelling challenge started in Perth on 16 October 2013 and came to a conclusion at Shellharbour on Saturday 4 January, just before midnight (GMT).
Mark had cancelled the run on 27 December due to concerns over his safety but had a change of heart the next day. With a revised route, Mark was able to complete the challenge and finish in Shellharbour instead of Bondi Beach, his original end destination.
Mark said after taking a dip in the Pacific Ocean to celebrate finishing: "I've done it! Coast to coast across Australia. From Perth to Shellharbour. And I can't go any further, because that's the Pacific Ocean. My feet are in bits but this ocean feels fantastic. It was such a difficult run. Far more difficult than I could ever have imagined. The physical battle I just about coped with. The mental battle, however, was considerable."
Throughout the run Mark was plagued with injury concerns and struggled with soaring temperatures. When asked if he'd do it again Mark replied: "Of course I would. At the drop of a hat. No doubt about it."
Before quickly adding: "I'm not going to, however."
The run has so far raised over £48,000 for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and The Children's Foundation. To sponsor Mark, go to his Virgin Money Giving page.
