Deerstalkers Light Up The Valley

Mighty DeerstalkerAround 3,000 tweed-wearing competitors tackled Rat Race’s The Mighty Deerstalker on Saturday (14 March) as the event celebrated its 10th year. The event saw participants take on mud-filled trenches, water crossings and forest trails in the Scottish Borders late on Saturday night.

Participants entered the race either as an individual or as a team and could choose between the 5K Deerstalker or the 10K Mighty Deerstalker course.  The 5k Deerstalker race was completed in daylight and was designed for those competitors who are new to off-road running.
For those who wanted to push their body to the limit, the 10K Mighty Deerstalker was further, higher, steeper, wetter and wilder. It offered all of the challenges of the 5k race, but instead of competitors stopping when they reached the finish line at Traquair House, runners completed the longer version in darkness with only a head-torch to light the way.
In keeping with Rat Race tradition, at the end of the course runners were joined by their friends and family at the notorious Mighty Beerstalker tent, where they were able to toast their success and enjoy lots of food, drink and live music.
Jim Mee, Rat Race MD and creator of the Mighty Deerstalker said of the event: “This year was the Mighty Deerstalker’s 10th anniversary, making it one of our most established and popular events. As always, there was a fantastic atmosphere on the night, with lots of participants dressed up in tartan and tweed, keeping with the events historic theme.”
