The Southside Six returns for its third staging on 3 November and entries for the event open today (21 February) at 7:30pm. The 16-mile race gets it name from its route which goes through six of the most scenic parks in Glasgow's southside.
The event was created by six friends who, tired of running through long stretches of suburban roads, were looking to establish an event that included some of the city's many parks. The race starts at Queens Park at 11am and takes competitors through Kings Park, Linn Park, Rouken Glen Park, Pollok Country Park and Bellahouston Park before finishing back at Queens Park. First held in 2011, the event has sold out on both occasions, taking less than 24 hours to do so last year.
Organisers Allan and Nick described the race ethos: "The emphasis of The Southside Six is for people who enjoy running to get out into the green spaces which are all around the south sie have based the route around sied the route around six of the largest, there are many others to enjoy. The Southside Six is a race and there will be prizes for the fastest times however it's as much about having a good time exploring."
