Registration for the 2012 New York City half marathon closes at midnight this evening (Monday, December 19). The event, which is scheduled for March 18, is expected to attract over 10,000 runners to the city.
Now in its seventh year, the event has enjoyed a burgeoning popularity and is seen as the ideal preparation for the full marathon. Previously held in the summer, the event switched to March in 2010 so runners could take advantage of the cooler Manhattan spring.
Last year's race saw Mo Farah defeat Ethiopia's Gebre Gebremarian in an enthralling finish to ensure victory in what was his debut over the half-marathon distance. In the women's event, Kenya's Caroline Rotich set a course record with a time of 68:52.
