Those looking to put their summer training to good use may be spurred on by the news that guaranteed entries for the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon close at midnight on Sunday, July 1. Anticipation surrounding this year's event, organised for September 30, has been heightened by the fact reigning champions Tomas Abyu and Lisa Finlay have confirmed their participation, and suggestions that the overall Festival of Running could attract over 9,000 runners.
The deadline of July 1 is for prospective runners looking for guaranteed standard entry for the event. Club, overseas and official charity runners will have longer - until September 10 - to register. The event is priced at £47, or £45 for Scottish Athletics members.
Regarded as one of Scotland's top events, the marathon takes in some stunning scenery as it moves along the south-eastern shores of Loch Ness, across the River Ness, and into the centre of Inverness, the capital city of the Highlands.
