700 runners enjoyed ideal conditions - dry, bright and fresh - at yesterday's (18 September) Cumbernauld 10K. An interesting course - nice wide avenues in the early stages, some downhill stretches and lochside views - offset a tougher second half.
At the business end of the race, promising local runner Cameron Richardson (Cumbernauld AAC) broke the tape on 32:45, 11 seconds ahead of podium regular Robert Gilroy (Cambuslang Harriers) with Jack Heathwood (Bellahouston Harriers) third - 34:01.
Dumbarton AC's Nikki Lyons (39:27) was fastest woman. She finished ahead of club mate Lindsey Currie (40:15) with Lisa Doyle third on 40:30.
James Halcrow was the midpoint runner on 54:16 and the field closed on 1:43:16.
Highlights of the event were a brilliant stadium start/finish at Broadwood, the home of Clyde FC, an inspirational pipe band send-off, efficient and encouraging marshalling throughout and a decent goody bag with medal, water, orange, banana and Mars Bar.
