Following the success of the inaugural event last year, the CowalFest 10K and 5K Fun Run return to the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll on Saturday 11 October. Part of the CowalFest walking and outdoor festival, the races are held in the scenic Benmore Botanic Gardens.
Both races begin at the car park and follow more or less the perimeter of the gardens. For 5k runners this will be once round the perimeter, for 10k runners it will be repeated. The undulating course consists of paths (some narrow), forest roads, steps and shingle. No running spikes are allowed and competitors must stay on the designated paths at all times. All participants must step through the footpath on entering and leaving the Gardens.
Last year's men's 10K was won by David Miller with Ruth Joss fastest female. The 5K saw Nathan Robinson break the finishing tape with Arlene Ross winner of the ladies' event.
Those accompanying runners will be able to enjoy the gardens as they will be open to the public. Its collection of over 300 species of rhododendrons is one of the finest in the world.
