After recently becoming the first half marathon in the Nordic countries to be awarded the International Association of Athletics Federations’ Road Race bronze label, Copenhagen Half Marathon is going for gold in 2015. The event, set for 13 September 2015, is hoping to achieve the gold award this year, a status awarded to just five other half marathons in Europe.
Director of the Danish Athletic Federation Jakob Larsen said: “Our ambition with the Copenhagen Half Marathon is to create a race event with the prestige and strength to attract runners from the whole world – just as runners travel to Berlin, London and New York to run. Therefore we are very happy that we have been able to take advantage of the excellent opportunities that was prompted by the 2014 World Half Marathon Championships.”
Part of the race’s appeal lies in its flat and scenic course. The half marathon covers most areas of Copenhagen, taking in the very best of the Danish capital – from Østerbro, Nørrebro and Vesterbro to Frederiksberg and the inner city. The route features broad roads, soft curves and long straight stretches providing ideal conditions for achieving a PB.
