Coasting Comes To Peterhead

Barry the Baton

As the CoastersGB British Coastal Relay continues, jogscotland Peterhead are getting ready to play their part, as Barry the Baton reaches the seaside town on July 3 2010. Heading into his third month on the road, Barry the Baton has been carried by runners from Blackpool, up the west of the country, across the northern tips of Scotland and is now heading down the east coast.

Members of Peterhead jogscotland will pick up the baton from Gillian Strachan of Fraserburgh Running/jogscotland at St Fergus beach just after midday on Saturday and will take Barry to Catto Park Pavilion. Members of the group have been looking forward to Barry's arrival, with the jogscotland juniors holding a competition to draw the friendly baton (pictured). The winners of the competition will have the chance to carry Barry around the running track at Catto Park before he makes his way south.

Members of Peterhead jogscotland will be with Barry all the way down to Collieston Harbour, before he is handed over to Aberdeen's Metro Running Club later that afternoon. When Barry arrives back in Blackpool in October, he will have circled the whole of the UK mainland in this unique runner-orientated relay event.
