Club Challenge For Great Runners

Great Ethiopian Run

Teams entering this year's Bupa Great Run Club Challenge will battle it out for the opportunity to compete in the Great Ethiopian Run. Nova International, organisers of the Great Run series, have made arrangements for the successful club to take an all-expenses five day trip to participate in Africa's biggest race.

To qualify, the club will be required to enter at least one of the Bupa sponsored races - Great Manchester Run (26 May), Great North 10K (23 June), Great Edinburgh Run (14 July), Great North Run (15 September), Great Yorkshire Run (29 September), Great Birmingham Run (20 October), Great South Run (27 October) or The Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run (6 October).

The winning clubs in each race, based on the average time of their fastest seven men and women to finish, will be placed in a draw after the Bupa Great South Run in Portsmouth. The successful club will see their 14 contestants travel for a long weekend stay from Thursday to Monday at the 4 Star 'Yaya Africa Athletics Village' just outside Addis Ababa, and will have a personal meeting with Haile Gebrselassie.

David Newton, Nova International's managing director, commented: "The Great Run Club Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for British athletes to take part, offering the opportunity to visit a country with a mythical history whilst also competing in one of the world's greatest road running events."

On the meeting with Gebrselassie, Newton added: "Not surprisingly Haile, given his association since winning the first ever Great Ethiopian Run, has been involved in the project. The popularity and love of the meeting by Ethiopians sees it attract not only a massive field but over a million spectators each year. I'm sure the Brits who make the trip will never forget the experience."

Competing clubs at each event will also have the opportunity of clinching other awards: First team - £500 and 15 free entries to the following year's event. Second and third sides will also receive ten and five entries for the respective 2014 races. To enter, visit the Great Run website.
