Those planning to sprint, skip or simply scramble across the finish line at the 2012 Ignis Asset Management Women's 10k on Sunday, May 13, have less than two weeks left to sign up for the largest all-woman race of its kind in Britain. Those wishing to participate can enter online at the event website until Tuesday, May 8, Postal entries close today (Friday, April 27).
Race organisers, Glasgow Life, are also offering people the chance to enjoy the atmosphere on the day, even if they aren't able to take part. Around 80 people are being given the opportunity to gain valuable volunteering experience by becoming a route steward and ensuring the event runs smoothly.
Head of Sport at Glasgow Life, Keith Russell, said: "There isn't long to go until race day, but you can still get involved. More and more people are walking the course as it is the perfect opportunity to get together with friends and enjoy an active and fun day out, but now is the time to book your place on the starting line."
On recruiting volunteers, Keith continued: "As we look ahead to Glasgow becoming an Olympic City this summer and the Commonwealth Games in 2014, volunteering is a great way to enjoy all that a large-scale sporting event offers. It is also increasingly viewed as an excellent way to gain valuable life experience and develop skills."
This year's event will play host to a number of modifications, including an increase in en-route entertainment, pacers for those looking to set a PB, the introduction of technical t-shirts and fewer women in each starting group. In addition to these, organisers have also changed the prize structure for the upcoming race, with the emphasis shifting from inviting elite overseas runners towards developing and rewarding the best of Scotland's home-based athletes.
