A running enthusiast has honoured the memory of her mum by running 17 events in 2017 for Poppyscotland. Claire Smith completed her challenge last month at Loch Ness Marathon.
In December 2016, Claire’s mother Rose passed away after a battle with ill health – Rose was a big supporter of Poppyscotland while her dad, David Lockie also spent 22 years in the Forces, with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers - so Claire has strong connections to the military.
Amongst the 17 races that she has completed are Benbecula Half Marathon, Great Edinburgh Run and the Kilomathon.
“After a tough year last year, I was determined to do something a little special, especially in memory of my mum. I've found it hard to grieve and for me the way to cope is to do something positive,” Claire explained.
“I continue to make my mum proud of the girl she made – to complete the challenge was a massive achievement for me.
“I’ve always gone to Remembrance Sunday events and, because this charity was something mum was really passionate about, I decided to fundraise for Poppyscotland.”
