Celebrations Planned For parkrun

Runners set off at a parkrun event

Organisers of Glasgow and St Andrews park runs are planning special celebrations for this Saturday (1 December). The free weekly 5k event is now staged at 8 locations across Scotland after the first event Scottish event was launched in 2008.

Saturday marks Glasgow parkrun's fourth anniversary at Pollok Country Park and to celebrate organisers will hold post-run awards in the Burrell Café including drinks and birthday cake. Further north, St Andrews parkrun in Craigtoun Country Park have organised a special St Andrew's Day event, and are encouraging people to wear white and blue, kilts, tartan or anything Scottish themed.

St Andrews parkrun have issued an open invitation: "Join us after parkrun on Saturday 1 December for a wee get together in town, we'll be chatting about parkruns past and plans for the future and maybe even things that have nothing to do with running! The Vic does a good selection of teas, coffees, drinks and bacon rolls, so why not pop by and refuel? All welcome!"

There are also plans to launch two new parkrun events in Glasgow and North Ayrshire next year. Glasgow's Tollscross Park has been chosen to hold a parkrun as part of the Commonwealth Games Legacy project. If you would like to be involved, contact GlasgowOffice@parkrun.com or richard@parkrun.com. Eglinton Park in Kilwinning has also been proposed as a new venue.
