An event that sets both tongues and tails wagging is the first ever Scottish Canicross Championship Series. Around 150 dogs and their owners will gather at Foxlake near Dunbar on 15 November as the second race in the series comes to East Lothian.
Canicross Comes To East Lothian
Dog owners from as far afield as Wales will travel to Foxlake to take part in the 5k run, which is open to competitors of all ages. The event is organised by Cani Sports Edinburgh.
Alison Wylie, who formally set up the running club last year, said: “It’s basically a running club with a difference – your dogs get to go too. It’s great for giving them the exercise they need and for owners to get fit at the same time.
“For a lot of our members, joining the club has been their first experience of running and now some of them are joining in races like ours. It’s a great club where we all adore our dogs and love getting out and about in Lothian to run with them.”
You don’t have to be a championship athlete to join in the fun at the Cani-Sports Edinburgh race, adds Alison: “Even though this is a championship race, we welcome people of all abilities to take part in our event.”
Thanks to the great facilities and space at Foxlake, there will also be a number of local and specialist retailers with stalls at the event so it’s a great fun day out for all dog lovers. You can even find out more about the sport if you are interested in having a go at cani-cross.
