16 fundraising heroes are just over three months away from tackling the Brathay 10in10. Described by Bear Grylls as 'an epic challenge that will require an emormous strength of mind', the intrepid band must run 10 marathons in consecutive days, beginning on Friday 8 May.
The team met for the first time on 17 and 18 January to investigate the course, share strategies and get to know the support team. Each 10in10 runner is required to raise at least £3,000 for Ambleside-based charity, Brathay Trust.
Since it started nine years ago, over £600,000 has been raised by runners for Brathay’s work with children and young people (this includes the proceeds from the one-day Brathay Windermere Marathon and Family Fun Day).
Ranging in age from 26 to 59 years old, with a fairly even split of males and females, the majority of the runners this year are in their 40s. One participant wants to complete the challenge for the sixth time, five are tackling it for the fifth time and nine are new to the event.
