Entries are now open for the 2014 Bournemouth Marathon Festival which is returning for a second year after the success of the inaugural event in 2013. The festival takes place on 4 and 5 October 2014, and includes a half marathon, 10K, 5K and two junior races as well as the feature 26.2 mile race.

On the Saturday morning there will be two junior running races across 1.5k and 2k distances. The 1.5k is open to runners aged six to eight and the 2k, runners aged nine to twelve. Then it's the turn of the Supersonic 10K, named after the music played along the route to spur entrants on. After the aural delights of the 10K, participants and spectators are given a visual treat at the Speed of Light 5K which closes proceedings for the day. Starting and finishing near the Bournemouth Marathon Festival hub in the lower gardens, the coastal route takes in the Bournemouth Pier. The race takes place at dusk with emphasis on light around the route. Last year participants were provided with luminous LED wristbands to light up the pier and promenade as they ran.
The half marathon will be held on Sunday followed by the marathon. Both races offer stunning sea views, and fresh crisp clean air in what organisers describe as 'the perfect natural environment for running'.
