The popular Bella 5K, organised by Bellahouston Road Runners, will be joined by a 10K race for the first time this year to create a new double-header. The 5k/10k event takes place on Sunday 1 September in Bellahouston Park. The Jimmy Irvine Bella 10K retains its late autumn slot on Saturday 9 November.
The 5k and 10k routes are flat and fast, run entirely on tarmac paths within the park. Entries for the 5k are limited to 200 competitors with a minimum age of 12 and the Bella 10K will have a limit of 650 competitors, with a minimum age of 15. All entrants will receive a technical T-shirt and there will be music and race commentary throughout the day.
Bellahouston Road Runners president, Robert McEwan, told scottishrunningguide.com: "The Bella 5K is an established and popular event on the race calendar. For 2013 we've decided to add a 10k event which makes logistical sense as most of the arrangements are in place already - marshals, timing system and post-race catering. We aim to achieve the standards we've set for the 5k over a number of years for the new longer distance event."
