100 plus club runners will be heading to Pollok parkrun in Glasgow on Saturday 17 February ready to do battle in the 2018 Bella Mob Match. This event was launched in 2017 when Bellahouston Roadrunners claimed victory. Bellahouston Harriers recorded the three fastest times on the day courtesy of Robbie Ferguson, Gregor Yates and Chris Walsh but the Roadrunners greater strength in depth prevailed.
Now the stage is set for a dramatic re-match with reports that Bellahouston Harriers are planning to have around 60 participants which has led to a call to arms from senior Bellahouston Roadrunners officials for their team-mates to match the Harriers in numbers and performance.
Last year one Roadrunner commented: "Saturday's mob match was a brilliant occasion. Lots of pre-run banter, serious effort around the course and post-run photo bombing. It all went off in a great spirit. I hope we can do it again next year."
That wish has been answered and the two South Side giants will again go head to head at the popular Glasgow parkrun. Mob match rules will see all placings noted and the lower club attendance (minus three) compared to the same number of runners from the other club. The club with the least number of points (points are awarded for places) will win the prestigious Mob Match Trophy.
After the race Harriers and Roadrunners and their supporters will relive the highlights of the Mob Match at Cartha Rugby Club where food and drinks will be on offer at the prize giving.
