With Canadian beverage company Vampt last year announcing it was to launch a recovery ale, the German company Erdinger has decided to join in. Erdinger Alkoholfrei is an isotonic recovery drink containing less than 0.5% alcohol and is low in calories and sodium.
Runners at this year's ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon on 19 April will be able to try the drink as free samples will be handed out at the finish line. Race organisers recently announced their partnership with Erdinger Alkoholfrei, which has chosen the race as its first marathon event in the UK. The event was voted the UK’s Best Marathon by The Running Awards 2014 and it also won the Most Improved Race at the Runner's World Personal Best Awards last year.
Race director Simon Hill commented: “We are excited that Erdinger Alkoholfrei will be present at the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, handing out refreshing, isotonic drinks to all finishers. Erdinger Alkoholfrei is a huge name in sports and we feel privileged to have the team at the finish line of the race and to be the only UK marathon that Erdinger Alkoholfrei has chosen to have a presence at.”
Events director Pete Gowans from Erdinger Alkoholfrei stated: ”The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon is going to be a fantastic event. We will be on hand at the finish line to give you a cold, refreshing isotonic drink that will not only aid your recovery but ensure you celebrate your victory in style. We look forward to seeing you and to celebrating with you on 19 April.”
The marathon starts and finishes near Old Trafford. An increased number of 12,500 places are available for 2015, with Cancer Research UK, The Christie and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity confirmed as the official charities.
