Adventure enthusiasts Rat Race have set pulses going for adrenaline junkies with the launch of their Notorious Night Run Series. Renowned for their obstacle-packed courses, the series promises an: 'awesome night-running, headtorch-wearing, downright-laugh-out-loud adventure in the descending darkness.'
With five events spanning the length and breadth of the UK over the course of 2013, the series kicks off with the Legends of Sherwood on 2 March. Taking place through the woodland glades of Sherwood Pines, the Nottinghamshire event is calling forth all 'Merry Men and Merry Maids for a feast of foresty fun.'
The week following, the Newburgh Priory will be the venue for the Yorkshire Terrier. With sights and sounds of a Yorkshire of Yesteryear, competitors are encouraged to revel in their industrial heritage and dress up as mucky miners, flamboyant farmers and ruddy brewers.
In Scotland, the Night Run Series' flagship event, The Mighty Deerstalker, will no doubt be heading for another sell out on 16 March. Set against the historic Traquair House - 5 miles southeast of Peebles - the Deerstalker offers both a daylight 5k and torchlit 10k for runners to pit themselves against the Tweed Valley.
Rounding off this year's series is the Horseplay event in Oxfordshire, on 23 March. Taking place across the rolling hills of Hambleden, competitors are being encouraged to dig out their 'equestrian best for a host of horsey jinks in 2013.' All of the events will host a Notorious After-Party, with local foods, beers and bands on site.
Early bird prices for all four Notorious events run until 30 June. For more information and to register, visit the Rat Race website.
