Entries are now open for the 2018 Balfron 10K, which will take place 22 April 2018. Since the inaugural event in 2007, the West Stirlingshire race has become increasingly popular – with many runners attracted by the proximity to both Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as the magnificent views of the Campsies,
The event attracts runners of all abilities. The officially measured course, chip-timing, winners’ prizes and professional organisation appeal to the most serious runners, while the friendly atmosphere, traffic-free route and excellent goody bags including commemorative medal and T-shirt make it a great race for the more casual runner or even those attempting their first 10k.
In addition to the 10K there are local school races in the area on the day, including the eagerly contested Balfron 4K, a road race open to Balfron High School pupils. Balfron Primary School and nursery also have a programme of races for the morning, making use of the playing fields behind the school campus.
The Balfron 10K is an out and back road race starting and finishing within the Balfron Campus (Balfron High School) which has car parking and changing facilities. The turning point is beyond Broughmore Farm. For the most part, the route is along country roads with great views of Strath Endrick and the northern Campsies. For the duration of the race, the route will be closed to through traffic.
