As well as hosting the shooting events for this summer's Commonwealth Games, the Barry Buddon military training area will also host a new half marathon on Sunday 31 August. Participants will be relieved to know that that the only shooting on the day will be the starter's pistol.
The flat and fast course offers runners the chance of a PB, and the fastest competitors will be awarded with special trophies - model lighthouses. The idea behind the trophies comes from the two disused lighthouses which are featured prominently on the race course.
The race is being organised by Alan Lawson, the man behind the popular Seven Hills Race which sold out three months before its start date. He told scottishrunningguide.com: "It's very much a sign of the times, as people rush to enter characterful events."
