GSi Events, the national event company, has announced that it will be staging a new major running festival somewhere in the UK in 2013. The company currently has the multi-distance Kilomathon and the growing 5k Big Fun Run series in its portfolio. Although the model for the new event is GSi's successful Edinburgh Festival of Running which attracts over 30,000 participants to a weekend programme of 5k, 10k, junior races, half marathon plus feature marathon.

GSi Events boss Neil Kilgour has recently strengthened his team and is now looking forward to creating a new multi-race event at a high-profile location. Kirstie Armsworth will be leading the marketing drive and has launched the event website. Intriguingly the location is as yet not public knowledge and the GSi Events team is building interest by asking runners to guess where the new event will be held.

The website states: "The location of this 'must-do' running series remains a mystery but do you think you can guess where it might be? There is a fantastic prize of a Garmin Forerunner GPS watch for one lucky winner chosen at random from all the entries received. When you enter you will automatically be registered to be notified of the location, date and time of this spectacular marathon festival. This will be the hottest news in town so watch this space for further details about a world-class running event ...coming soon!"

One clue being offered is that the new location begins with the letter B, and over 20 cities and towns are listed as alternatives on a drop-down menu on the home page at the website. Industry insiders were quick to dismiss a number of obvious 'red herrings' on the list and suggest that the inclusion of Burnham-on-Sea, Berwick-on-Tweed and Boston owed more to the GSi team's sense of humour than serious consideration.

Seven names on the list catch the eye - Basildon, Basingstoke, Bath, Bedford, Birmingham, Bournemouth and Bristol. However the GSi Events team are remaining tight-lipped about the eventual choice. Unofficial oddsmakers have made Bournemouth favourite at 3/1 with Basildon (5/1), Birmingham (6/1) and 10/1 bar.
