Aviemore Half Marathon & 10K returns to the Highlands on 16 October. Set against the backdrop of the picturesque Cairngorm Mountains, the majestic splendour of the landscape makes for an inspirational running location. Participants will run through the ancient Caledonian Pines of Glenmore Forest and around the beautiful Loch Morlich.
Highland races aren't renowned for being PB-friendly due to the undulating nature of the area, but Aviemore is the exception. The course starts 1100 feet above sea level and finishes 720 above it, so large stretches are downhill, making it highly conducive to a fast time. It is a multi-terrain, point-to-point race with a mixture of forest trails, paths and tarmac roads. The route goes around Loch Morlich, through Glenmore Forest Park and Rothiemurchus Estate, before crossing the River Spey to the finish line on the lawn in front of the Macdonald Aviemore Resort.
The 10K course is a solid forest track which joins/crosses the ski road at Loch Morlich. As well as the half marathon and 10k, there is also a Family Fun Run on the Saturday (15 October).
